Colorado's 1st Nature Explore Classroom, Old Town Ft Collins

Children connect with their natural world. Children connect with oneself, siblings, peers, caregiver, environment, and beyond.

Children connect with oneself through self-directed interest, using their own natural curiosity and energy. Connecting with nature through the delight of capturing a photo of a newly bloomed bleeding heart flower.

Children connect with siblings which foster natural bonds within their family. Connecting when big sister tenderly presses her forehead against her li’l brother’s forehead while frolicing on the natural lawn.

Children connect with multi-age peers creates a foundation for secure relationships and for meaningful play-based learning through natural leadership and self-regulation. Connecting when a team of peers’ yell, “1, 2, 3 – we’re winners!” Connecting when a former student visits and naturally assists a younger child across a suspension bridge.

Children connect with a consisent caregiver which developes their sense of security and trust that enables children to explore and flourish in their natural setting. Connecting as a li’l one enjoys the sights and sounds of a nature hike, secured in a baby carrier of his trusted caregiver.

Children connect within their natural environment provides stability which is critical for healthy emotional development, which prepares for all other areas of development. Connecting in their natural setting a preschooler said, “I’m giving these flowers a hug!” or as a li’l one counts the number of legs on an insect, “1, 2, 3…”

Children connect beyond this world… links children to the magic of childhood where they grow and learn as they make sense of their natural world through imagination, exploration and discovery. Connecting when preschoolers phone their loved ones from outer space and say, “Hi Mom!”
